Why can’t you tell me if I need additional work before my installation appointment?

Every home plumbing system is unique, and factors such as pipe configuration, valve condition, and water pressure can only be fully assessed on site. The assigned third-party installer must inspect your system in person to determine if any additional work is required. If needed, they will provide a detailed estimate for your approval before proceeding.

What is my estimated cost for additional work?

Below is a breakdown of estimated costs for common additional work scenarios. Your actual cost may vary depending on factors such as your plumbing system, pipe size, valve type, installation complexity, accessibility, and local plumbing codes.

Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) Installation

Terms & Conditions

A Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) is a device installed on your main water line to regulate the pressure of water entering your home. It prevents excessive water pressure, which can lead to leaky pipes, burst pipes and premature wear on plumbing fixtures.

Why Your Home May Need One

If your home’s water pressure exceeds 80 PSI, a PRV may be required by plumbing code. High water pressure is like high blood pressure in the human body — over time, it places stress on your plumbing system, potentially causing leaks, damage, or even burst pipes.

Estimated Additional Cost Range (If needed)

¾” - 1” Pipe $340 – $520
+1¼” Pipe $750 – $940+

Your actual cost may be more or less depending on your plumbing system, pipe size, valve type, installation complexity, accessibility of your plumbing system, and local plumbing codes.

Manual Shutoff Valve Installation

What is a Manual Shutoff Valve?

A shutoff valve allows you to turn off your home’s water supply in case of an emergency or maintenance, but in many older homes, gate valves if not regularly operated can become frozen shut (unable to turn), leaky, or partially closed, restricting water flow.

Why Your Home May Need One

If your home’s existing shutoff valve is old, corroded, or non-functional, it may need to be replaced to safely install the Moen Flo device.

Estimated Additional Cost Range (If needed)

Your actual cost may be more or less depending on your plumbing system, pipe size, valve type, installation complexity, accessibility of your plumbing system, and local plumbing codes.

¾” - 1” Pipe $80 – $140+
1¼” Pipe $120 – $170+

Pipe Modification

What is a Pipe Modification?

If there is not enough accessible, uninterrupted straight pipe after the home’s manual shutoff valve and/or pressure reducing valve on the main water supply line to perform the “Standard Installation”, Additional labor and materials may be required to modify the plumbing to create enough space for one of these installation options.

Why Your Piping May Need Modification

Standard Installation requires a minimum section of accessible, uninterrupted, straight pipe on the main water supply line to allow the third-party installer to install the Flo device inline or reroute the water line to create a “loop” to accommodate the device.

Estimated Additional Cost Range (If needed)

¾” - 1” Pipe $80 – $220+
1¼” Pipe $110 – $290+

Your actual cost may be more or less depending on your plumbing system, pipe size, valve type, installation complexity, accessibility of your plumbing system, and local plumbing codes.

Power Outlet

Why do I need a power outlet?

The Flo Smart Water Shutoff requires a power source to operate its internal sensors, monitor water usage, and communicate with the Moen Smart Water Network App. The device continuously analyzes your home's water system and needs power to detect leaks, run health tests, and provide automatic shutoff in case of an emergency. Without a power source, the device would not function as intended and would be unable to protect your home from potential water damage.

What electrical work is included in the Standard Installation?

Included with your Standard Installation is securing the power adapter’s transformer and routing one customer-supplied Moen 25-foot low-voltage extension cable to an approved outlet in a manner that does not create a tripping hazard or obstruct walkways, windows, or doors. Adding additional cables, tidying up, concealing cables along walls, through ceilings, or through walls, or making other structural modifications is outside the Standard Installation scope and would incur additional costs.

Estimated Additional Cost Range (If needed)

¾” - 1” Pipe $340 – $520
+1¼” Pipe $750 – $940+

Your actual cost may be more or less depending on your plumbing system, pipe size, valve type, installation complexity, accessibility of your plumbing system, and local plumbing codes.

Well System Without Sediment Filter

I have a well system

For homes supplied by a well system, an operational sediment filter with at least a 150-micron filter or 100 mesh wye strainer is required. If no filter exists or it does not meet specifications, additional labor and materials (e.g., special piping, fittings, filters, strainers) may be required.

What work is included in the Standard Installation?

If a sediment filter of at least 150 microns or a 100 mesh wye strainer is present, installation can proceed, assuming all other Standard Installation requirements are met.

Estimated Additional Cost Range (If needed)

If your home is supplied by well water and the assigned third-party installer determines that your home does not have a sediment filter or does not meet the minimum filter requirements, there may be an additional cost for installing a sediment filter. The exact cost will depend on your well system setup and the complexity of the installation. Your installer will provide a detailed estimate for approval before any work begins.
