Steps for a Successful Installation
Prepare for Your Installation Appointment
1 - Locate Your Main Water Shutoff Valve and Identify Your Pipe Size
Your main water shutoff valve is typically found inside or outside your home near where the main water line enters. Knowing your pipe size helps ensure you ordered the correct device for a smooth installation process.
2 - Set Up Your Moen Smart Water Network App
Before your appointment, download the Moen Smart Water Network app, create an account, and follow the instructions to pair your Flo device to your home's Wi-Fi.
3 - Understand Potential Additional Costs
While most installations fall under Standard Installation, some setups may require additional work and costs. Below, you'll find common add-ons, their estimated costs, and why they may be necessary. Did you order the wrong size? Click here to return and order the correct one.
4 - Be Present And Available
Stay home and be ready to communicate with your installer about your plumbing system. If additional work is needed, the installer will discuss it with you before proceeding.
5 - Confirm That Your Flo Is Working
Once installation is complete, open the Moen app, turn on a faucet, and check that your Flo device is properly registering pressure, flow rate, and temperature.
How Flo Protects Your Home

Water Pressure Monitoring
If your home's water pressure exceeds 80 PSI for an extended period, the Flo device will send an alert notifying you of excessive pressure. This may indicate a faulty Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) or the need for one to be installed.

Daily MicroLeak Tests
By default, Flo runs a daily microleak test to check for even the smallest drips in your plumbing system. This proactive feature helps detect hidden leaks that could lead to costly water damage over time. The MicroLeak Test also exercises the shutoff valve within the Flo device. Regularly operating the ball valve ensures it remains functional and prevents it from sticking or freezing in place. This is crucial in case of a major leak where the valve needs to automatically shut off water to your home.

Automatic Shutoff Capability
In the event of a potential catastrophic leak, Flo’s automatic shutoff feature helps prevent significant water damage by cutting off the water supply to your home.
Why Might Additional Costs Be Needed?
Depending on your home’s plumbing setup, additional work and costs may be required beyond the Pre-Paid Standard Installation. While most installations qualify for Standard Installation, certain pre-existing plumbing conditions may require additional components or modifications to ensure a proper installation and protect your plumbing system.
Common Additional Cost Scenarios
Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV)
Required if your home's water pressure exceeds 80 PSI to prevent damage to your plumbing system.
Manual Shutoff Valve
Older gate valves may be frozen or inoperable, requiring replacement for safe water shutoff.
Pressure Relief Valve
Often required by code to protect water heaters and plumbing systems from excess pressure.
Pipe Modification
If there is insufficient uninterrupted straight pipe or limited accessibility for installation, minor to moderate adjustments may be necessary.
Power Outlet
An accessible approved outlet must be within reach of the Device’s power adapter cord length or within reach when using a single, customer-supplied Moen 25-foot low-voltage extension cord. Connecting this extension cord to the Device is included in the installation. If an accessible approved outlet is not available within this range, installing a new outlet would require a qualified electrician.
Well System Without Sediment Filter
For homes supplied by a well system, an operational sediment filter with at least a 150-micron filter or 100 mesh wye strainer is required. If no filter exists or it does not meet specifications, additional labor and materials (e.g., special piping, fittings, filters, strainers) may be required.
